National Latina Institute for Reproductive Health
(New York & Washington, D.C.)
As Board Development & Fundraising Counsel to National Latina Institute for Reproductive Health (2009-2013), a national organization working to ensure the fundamental human right to reproductive health and justice for Latinas, their families and their communities through public education, community mobilization and policy advocacy, Rachel conducted a Board Development & Planning Study consisting of twenty personal interviews with a cross-section of board, staff, foundation funders, consultants, and colleague organizations. Rachel’s findings resulted in recommendations pertaining to board criteria roles & responsibilities, governance procedures, fundraising requirements and goals, leadership structure, and recruitment of new members, as well as creating strategies for enhancing the organization’s individual donor base. Rachel’s continued work with NLIRH involved implementing Study recommendations by assisting the organization with its institutional development efforts through board development and training, executive and development staff mentorship, the structuring of the organization's fundraising program and development department, and spearheading a nationwide search for a Director of Development. In addition, Rachel served as an ex-officio member of NLIRH’s Executive Transition committee, a fundraising expert for the organization’s Strategic Planning process, and a leadership advisor for the organization’s incoming Executive Director during her first year on the job.
